Oakland Gymnastics Training Center  is owned and operated by Chris and Ruth Miller.  Both Chris and Ruth have been actively involved in the gymnastics community for 30 years.  The Millers have four children - two sons and two daughters.  Dakota, 15, is a 9th grader at Clarkston Junior High School, and enjoys drama.  Connor, 12, is an 8th grader at Clarkston Junior High School, and an aspiring actor as well.  Mackenzie, 10, is a 5th grader at Andersonville Elementary, and a Level 8 gymnast at Oakland.  Savannah, 5, is a kindergartener at Andersonville Elementary, and loves spending as much time as possible in the gym.  She is currently a Level 3 gymnast at Oakland, longing to become a Level 10!!!

Chris was a USAG Junior Olympic competitive gymnast in Atlanta, GA until the age of 17.  Upon graduation from high school, Chris became a member of the MSU Spartan Gymnastics Team, where he received an athletic scholarship from 1989-1993.  While competing in college, Chris was an NCAA National qualifer on Parallel Bars, and was ranked in the top 25 A.A. for Men's Gymnastics in the NCAA.  Chris has 10 years of experience coaching Girls and Boys Recreational Gymnastics, Girls and Boys Developmental Team, Boys Competitive Team, Girls Team, Level 5-6, and Special Olympics.  While still living in Georgia, Chris was also a nationally certified men's gymnastics judge.

Ruth is a former USAG elite level competitive gymnast.  She trained at Steve Whitlock's School of Gymnastics, in Bloomfield Hills, Mi. until the age of 17.  Upon graduation from high school, Ruth received an athletic scholarship to MSU.  While competing for the Spartans from 1989-1993, she was Academic All Big Ten, Academic All American, an All Big Ten Team Member, team co-captain (1992-1993), held 4 school records, and received the Big Ten Medal of Honor (1993).  Ruth has 14 years of experience coaching Girls Developmental Team and Girls Team, Level 7-10.

The Millers believe that trying new ideas and striving to achieve excellence are part of our daily lives whether in athletics, scholastics, business, or parenting; however, this competitive spirit must be learned and nurtured.  Childhood years are character-shaping periods of life for real-world application.  As stated by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, "The important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle.  The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well.  To spread these concepts is to build up a stronger and more valiant, and above all, more scrupulous and more generous humanity."
